How Eto’o set record
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o equaled
Laurent Pokou of Cote d’ Ivoire ’s
38- year record of 14 goals in the MTN Africa
Cup of Nations.
Eto’o made his Nations Cup debut
at 19 in the 2000 tournament jointly hosted
by Ghana and Nigeria scoring four goals.
His goals helped the Indomitable Lions
to win the cup and two years (2002) later,
despite his one goal in the tournament the
Lions retained the Cup beating Senegal 3-2
on penalties after a goalless draw..
In 2004, he was overshadowed by Patrick
Mboma’s four goals, netting only one
in quarter finals against Nigeria which
the Lions lost 2-1.
He bounced back in 2006 edition in Egypt
scoring five times in group stage including
a hat-trick against Angola.
