SPORTS Club Villa’s troubled season
took a turn for the worse when they were
beaten 2-1 by Tanzanian side Mtibwa in a
Tusker Challenge Cup match played in Mwanza
last evening.
Steven Bengo scored Villa’s goal
on 85 minutes after the Tanzanians had sneaked
into a 2-0 lead. Half time score was 1-0
for Mtibwa.
The loss means that Villa, which drew 0-0
with Young Africans (Yanga) in their opening
fixture, are only left with a slim mathematical
chance of progressing.
Villa have already completed their fixtures
whereas Mtibwa, which leads Group 3 with
a maximum three points still has a game
to play against Yanga.
The Ugandans can only progess if Mtibwa
Sugar beats Yanga by two clear goals. The
latter only need a draw to progress to the
lucrative stages of the tournament. Villa
has not won any worthy silverware for three
years.
