Having taken over at the helm of Sports Club Villa, I have noticed that most key stakeholders in sports, including the government, are not clear on how to revamp the sector. As a result, the sector has hobbled from one stage of decline to another with a few unsustainable bright moments and yet every Financial Year, the government funds a sports budget though inadequately.

Uganda Cranes left back Nestroy Kizito can count himself a lucky man after signing for one of the biggest clubs in Serbia. The 28-year-old passed his medical just over a fortnight ago and has now signed a two-year deal with reigning Serbian champions, Partizan Belgrade. The Ugandan transfer rumour mill no longer attracts the frenzy it commanded in years gone by. In fact, the last time the local footballing fraternity was captivated by the close season transfer window was between November 2002 and January 2003 when the likes of Dan Wagaluka (Iganga to Villa), Tony Mawejje (Masaka to KCC) and Richard Malinga (KCC to Express) made head-turning transfers. Seven years on, although there appears to be no chance of such a frenzy playing out, one or two players are causing a stir.
