As Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC coach Moses
Basena swiftly turns his attention to his club’s
first league match of the new season, he can not
help but wonder how his team failed to lift the
Cecafa title.
The 2007 losing finalists matched that performance
in Kigali last year by contriving to concede two
late goals after leading for so long thanks to
a first half Martin Muwanga strike.
“I must say that I am very satisfied with
the team’s display. But it’s so cruel
to lose a final which we dominated for 70 minutes,”
Basena said on arrival at Entebbe Airport yesterday.
The coach was however keen to pick on the positives
of the tournament. “I am very comfortable
with the team I have here and I’m not planning
on buying other players. We can go into the season
with a lot of confidence and, hopefully will return
to the (Cecafa) championship soon,” he stated.
“We dominated the tournament in Tanzania
and were easily the best team.” Basena added
that URA wants to keep winger Dan Wagaluka but
will not block his path if there are offers on
the table.
“I can only confirm that a European club
wants him but that’s all I can say for now,”
Basena said without naming the interested club.
