Former SC Villa striker Oscar Kadenge yesterday
netted a 90th minute goal that ended Uganda Revenue
Authority’s quest for a maiden Cecafa Clubs
Championship title.
The Kenyan forward’s winning goal gave Jacob
Mulee’s Tusker a 2-1 victory. It was URA’s
first defeat at the regional club competition.
Pre-match favorites URA were in front after just
22 minutes, thanks to a Martin Muwanga strike.
Muwanga outpaced Tusker defenders Ibrahim Shikanda
and John Ngoroge to a Sam Mubiru pass, before
beating Tusker custodian Boniface Otieno.
Ismail Kigozi could have put the tax collectors
2-0 up, but his super 30th minute header bounced
off the cross bar. The half time score was 1-0
for URA.
Mulee made three changes soon after recess, including
Kadenge for Simon Mburu. The trio injected urgency
in the Tusker attack and it was not a surprise
when Joseph Shikokoti nodded home Monday Osbond’s
corner.
Kadenge then gave URA keeper Abel Dhaira with
a well connected shot off a cross from John Kio.
It is Tusker’s fourth triumph in the competition
while URA are now the losing finalists for the
second year in a row. The win gave Tusker $30,000
or Shs48m in prize money courtesy of Rwandan President
Paul Kagame whereas URA picked up $20,000 or Shs32m.
Simba won the $10,000 staked for the third placed
team without breaking sweat after their opponents
and rivals Yanga refused to play in the losers’
final.
