The Uganda Cranes may not have played any games in the past month but that didn’t impede the country from finishing ahead of 2010 World Cup hosts, South Africa in the latest Fifa rankings released yesterday.
Uganda moved three places up from 75th in July to 72nd in August to push the Southern African country to the 73rd spot.
Brazil remained unmoved at the top ahead of Spain and the Netherlands in second and third respectively.
A total of eight 2010 Fifa World Cup qualifiers and 62 friendly matches played in the past month were considered.
Uganda’s shift upwards can possibly be attributed to poor performances by log neighbours as the national team didn’t feature in any games last month.
South Africa lost their friendly match against Serbia in August despite putting up some remarkable performances at the recent Confederations Cup.
