Home sweet home

Like the saying goes, east or west, home is best and that can only be attested to by Ronald Muganga. On Friday 20th January 2012, Muganga lived up to the proverbial prodigal son story when he signed a two-year deal with SC Villa from Bunamwaya sports club.

Muganga told sc-villa.com that he was elated to be back at a club where he was groomed as a youngster in Jogoo Young back in 2001 when he joined. “I joined Villa as a very young boy and I have a lot of fond memories about my time here. I grew up supporting this club, it is close to my heart and I am proud to be back,” Muganga said.

It was in the second round of the 2006 Super League season that Muganga left Villa to play for Bunamwaya. It was a moment of despondency for the Villa faithful when Muganga chose to transfer to Bunamwaya. This was largely because he had just graduated from the youth team to the first team and left without bringing the club any substantial success.

In a way, his move at the time was viewed as a betrayal for quitting the club too early, yet it was a time he should have been leading the team to success. “It is for that reason I chose to return. In my view, I have a lot of unfinished business here,” said Muganga.

Muganga enjoyed a brilliant start to his career when he joined Bunamwaya. He left Villa after scoring four league goals, only to score ten more for Bunamwaya. He finished the 2006 season as the top-scorer with 14 goals.

But the ensuing seasons did not go well for the highly gifted left-footed Muganga. His form deteriorated from season to season. “I do not know what went wrong for me; I just could not play well. Now I am back to re-launch myself,” Muganga reasoned.  But he hastily says that he remains grateful to Bunamwaya for whatever they did for him all the years he was at the club that he left on a bosman.

He believes that if he can do well for his beloved club, and help them win things, he can earn a contract in a bigger foreign league. One thing Muganga did not mince words over the fact that he still has it in himself to play football at the top level. With his youth, the sky should be the limit.

Muganga who won the league title with Bunamwaya in the 2009/2010 season said that he harbours dreams of returning to the national team, The Cranes. “But first, the prospect of playing for this team again is a dream come true. I am so happy to be back and I look forward to working with my new team-mates and the Manager, Mike Mutebi who played a big role in aiding my return here.
