The last time SC Villa had a shirt sponsor was between 2008 and 2010. Then uganda telecom (Utl) signed a rolling contract with the Villa Park top hierarchy to advertise their brand on the Villa jerseys.

The contract signed in April of 2008 was worth Shs 120 million a year. September 8 saw Villa match this deal when Pioneer Easy Bus was unveiled as the Jogoos’ new shirt sponsors.

The three-year sponsorship deal is worth Shs 300 million, and Pioneer Easy Bus executive director Fred Senoga is confident it will fashion a win-win situation. Fred Muwema, the Villa board chairman, agreed, stressing that Pioneer Easy Bus will get value for money. “Considering the difficulty our football clubs have gone through to sustain their players, Pioneer Easy Bus is a timely intervention and we are grateful that they have come in to support us,” Muwema added.

Alongside Muwema was Villa director of football strategy, Joseph Kanaaba. The two officials were joined by a players’ representative Isaac Kirabira as Villa received a Shs 100 million cheque from its new sponsors. In this deal, the still images of Villa players will be flagged on Pioneer Easy buses.

Notably, this sponsorship did not only cover Villa but also its eternal rivals, Express and KCC who will also receive Shs 100 million each.
