Villa face Utoda at Wankulukuku stadium in second round League opener
Mike Mutebi sounded calm and collected after his team’s last training session yesterday at Villa Park as they prepared for the kick-off of the second round of the Bell Super League. In one sentence, he said that as a team, they were excited about the return of the league and looking forward to their reverse fixture with Utoda FC.
Interestingly, SC Villa completed its first round fixtures with an impressive 3-0 win over Utoda and they will be hoping for the same. Anything short of three points against the bottom-placed side will only present a precarious situation for the jogoos who believe that the bad run of the first round ended.
In the first round, Villa won only two of its fourteen league games and that is something the new manager has aimed at stopping. The tactical input into training over the last three weeks is thought to have improved the players so that they can show more quality than they did in the first round.
“Inevitably, it is the players to execute what we have been doing. We have learned a lot and I have no doubts in the players ability. I know we are ready for Utoda and, therefore, we should be in position to do well,” said Mutebi.
The manager added that he has told the team to go out there and play in an organised manner, with discipline and respect for the opponent. Mutebi insisted that they cannot afford to underestimate Utoda because they are a good side.
“I remember, in our first round fixture against Utoda, they kept attacking us even when they had a man sent off. Knowing their philosophy, they are going to attack us, so we have to be alert to stop them from gaining any early advantage.”
But like Mutebi has always said, his team is going all out attack because a win in their opening fixture will give them a lot of confidence. Following the opening second round league fixtures yesterday, Mutebi’s men find themselves third from bottom in 13th position. The game today at Wankulukuku stadium will kick-off at 15:00hrs after the city derby between KCC and Express FC at the same ground.
