UGANDAN football fans have landed a March
2006 invitation to English Premiership side
Aston Villa.
SC Villa's National Fans Coordinator Ben
Immanuel Misagga told Daily Monitor that
the club's envoy at Aston Villa, Mr Peter
Sebuko, had secured an invitation for 50
fans to pay a courtesy visit to the English
side.
"This is an opportunity for our local
game to learn from the European sides about
how fans are expected to behave on and off
the pitch. We can't turn down this offer,
we shall name fans to travel to Aston Villa,"
said Misagga.
The local fans are expected to pick up some
knowledge on how Europeans organise their
fans base that help raise funds for the
club.
Misagga added that he wants to prove to
Ugandans that fans are the major sources
of funds for football clubs, but not necessarily
through gate collections.
"These fans set up useful projects
that raise funds that help in the running
of the club's activities," he said.
Recently Misagga opened up agricultural
projects in Mityana and Luwero to help raise
funds for local giants SC Villa.
The projects include extensive maizeand
rice farms from which SC Villa will earn
fifty percent of the proceeds after the
crop has been harvested and sold.
The crop is already assured of a mass buyer
after the World Food Programme (WFP) agreed
for Misagga to supply them with the harvest. |
