Victor v URA
Express v Police
FORMER SC Villa coach Micho Sredojevic could
be the man to replace Frank ‘Video’
Anyau as URA coach. The Serbian, currently at
Ethiopian side St George but formerly of Orlando
Pirates (South Africa) and Yanga (Tanzania), is
in primary negotiations with the embattled side
whose fortunes have slumped in recent weeks.
If URA can successfully talk him out of his contract
at St George, Micho would gladly endorse a return
to Uganda, for this is where he had his first
assignment in Africa; one which was enjoyable
the fall-out with SC Villa notwithstanding.
Sixteen other coaches meanwhile have applied
for the job even before the club advertises the
post. Club chairman David Serebe revealed to Daily
Monitor that the biggest number of the applicants
are foreigners.
“Every day I get about two new applicants
and as of today, I have a total of 16. Nine of
them are foreign coaches and the rest locally
based,” said Serebe. The soft spoken Serebe
however refused to reveal names of the applicants
saying it was not right to mention their names
before the executive meets.
“What I can at least reveal is that I have
received applicants from South Africa, West Africa,
Zambia, Europe, Central Africa and Uganda,”
he said. Anyua resigned following a humiliating
1-0 defeat by lowly Maji FC in a league fixture,
just days before the team traveled to Zambia where
they drew 0-0 with Zesco United but bowed out
of the Africa Champions League.
On Friday, URA hit new depths when Ediofe Hills
inflicted another 1-0 defeat in Arua. The taxmen
today visit Jinja seeking to halt a bad run of
form against a strong Victors side.
“It is true we are not having a good time
but this happens to any team.
We are working hard to return to winning ways
and that game against Victors is one that we are
targeting to start with,” URA’s care
taker coach Ibrahim Mugisha said. URA dominated
the first leg in Namboole en route to a 1-0 victory.
