September 1 friendly
Uganda v Tanzania
September 8
Uganda v Niger
The Federation of the Uganda Football Associations
(Fufa) has thrown out a request from Niger to
have their team stay in Kampala for an extra three
days after the September 8 qualifier against the
Cranes.
Laszlo Csaba's charges need victory by three
clear goals to book a place at next year's African
Nations Cup finals in Ghana.
Niger's football governing body, Fenifoot, had
made the request in a communication to Fufa.
But Fufa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles
Masembe yesterday said that they see not reason
to grant Niger's request.
“The Niger people have requested for an
extra three days on top of the mandated Fifa days
a visiting team is supposed to stay in a particular
country.
“They have not yet given us the reason
for that but as the federation we are consulting
with the airline company to see that these people
fly out immediately after the match,” Masembe
said.
When the Cranes traveled to Niamey for the first
match between the two sides, they were thrown
out of a training ground. Besides, local police
confiscated ten cartons of mineral water meant
for Cranes players after a training session when
temperatures were as high as 45 degrees Celsius.
A 25-man Niger contingent will arrive in the
country next week on Wednesday ahead of the game
which they are playing for pride.
In a related development, Fufa has invited Super
Sports goalie Denis Onyango for the crunch tie
after confirming that he has fully recovered from
a knee injury.
Fufa technical affairs chief Asuman Lubowa told
the press that after several considerations they
had to invite the first choice custodian.
Fufa also confirmed that all the professionals
are expected in the country on September 3 as
David Obua and Hassan Wasswa, who have been nursing
injuries are fit.
The Cranes leave the country today for Dar es
Salaam where they will face off with the Taifa
Stars in a build up match ahead of the crunch
tie.
The team is to begin residential training at Jokas
Hotel in Bweyogerere as soon as it returns from
Tanzania.
