September 8
Uganda v Niger
THE national football team - the Cranes will
today resume non residential training ahead of
the crunch African Nations Cup tie against the
Mena du Niger. The tie is slated for September
8 at Namboole.
Local football governing body, Fufa, pushed forward
the training from Monday due to lack of funds.
The team that mainly comprises locally based players
will undergo double training sessions under coach
Laszlo Csaba, before starting residential training
on August 27 at Jokas Hotel in Bweyogerere.
The Cranes suffered mal-treatment from Niger
when the teams met last year in Niger and could
only garner one point from a goalless draw.
Csaba's charges need to score at least thrice
to make sure of a place at next year's finals
in Ghana.
Fufa vice president (technical affairs) Asuman
Lubowa said the foreign based played will join
camp on August 27.
“The team assembles tomorrow (today) at
Namboole. They will be training twice a day and
later the final team will enter residential training
at Jokas Hotel on August 27,” Lubowa said.
Fufa is yet to get a response from the countries
they wrote to requesting for build up matches
ahead of the Niger fixture.
Libya, Angola, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Sudan
are some of the countries that Fufa wrote to requesting
for build up matches.
Foreign based players invited to play are: Hannington
Kalyesubula (Ethiopia), Ibrahim Sekagya (Salzburg,
Austria), Posnet Omwony, Timothy Batabaire ( both
Celtics, S.Africa), Nestroy Kizito (Vodjina, Serbia),
Geoffrey Massa (El Shams, Egypt) and Andy Mwesigwa
(IBV, Iceland).
Others are Abubaker Tabula (Denmark), Vincent
Kayizi (APR, Rwanda), David Obua (Kaizer Chiefs,
S.Africa), Hassan Wasswa, Geoffrey Sserunkuma
(both Benoni Utd, S. Africa) and Assan Bajope
(Ethiopia).
Bloemfontein Celtics keeper Omwony has been invited
for the first time in almost a year as cover for
the injured Denis Onyango.
