Uganda needs a comfortable victory in tomorrow's
Africa Cup of Nations encounter against Niger
and Cranes players are in no doubt it will be
achieved. Daily Monitor's DOUGLAS BUGINGO talked
to the players.
Hannington Kalyesubula
The St. George FC (Ethiopia) first choice
custodian predicts Cranes will win though he is
hesitant to mention the scores. "I want our
strikers to play in Niger's half all the time
because this pressure will make them go down,"
he said.
Denis Onyango
Onyango predicts a hard fixture but remains confident
Cranes will emerge 3-0 winners. "It's a tricky
game because we badly need a win while the opponents
have nothing they are chasing apart from honoring
the fixture. The only solution would be to get
an early goal that will soften our way,"
Onyango said.
Andy Mwesigwa
IBV FC hard man Mwesigwa has a strong feeling
Uganda will win 2-0. “The only thing we
need is to concentrate and play in a calm way.
We do not need to be under any pressure,”
he said.
Assani Bajope
Bajope expects a 2-0 victory. “It's a very
important game both for me and the country. When
we qualify there will be great improvement of
Uganda's football,” Bajope said.
Vincent Kayizi
The APR FC left winger has predicted a 4-1 triumph
for the Cranes. “Everyone knows that this
is a very important game. We need to treat it
seriously because any mistakes we make will remain
on our hearts forever,” said Kayizi. Kayizi
has been a regular starter in Laszlo Csaba's squad.
Mike Sserumaga
The KB Lions striker is in no doubt Cranes
will win 3-0 and qualify for the finals.
“The two weeks I spent in Portugal (with
Sporting Lisbon) training gave me a real picture
of what is needed in professional players. With
this in my mind I know I can turn professional
when we play in the finals,” he said.
Patrick Ochan
Ochan is hoping to use the game to advance his
professional aspiration and believes a 3-0 win
is on card. “I know we are winning the game
3-0. It will be a blessing for Ugandan players
most especially the local based when we make the
finals because chances of being spotted for European
clubs will be wide,” the soft-spoken Ochan
told Daily Monitor.
Johnson Bagoole
Bagoole is among the few local based players in
the Cranes camp. He predicts a 3-0 win for Uganda.
“Since my childhood I have been hearing
stories that Uganda played at the finals of the
Africa Cup of Nations several times. It will be
a dream come true if we make it to the finals,”
he said.
Geoffrey Massa
He is Uganda's top striker at the moment and when
he makes a 4-0 prediction in Cranes favour he
knows what he is talking about. "I want to
play in Europe and the only way to achieve that
is to help my country make the finals so that
scouts spot me in Ghana," Massa said.
Geoffrey Sserunkuuma
Sserunkuuma says he is ready to perform a miracle.
"I have a big feeling that I am going to
perform a miracle. I don't know what it is but
I just feel it in me. This is our game and I know
by the end of the 90 minutes everyone will return
home happy," he said.
Simeon Masaba
The Police FC defender is a senior player on the
team and is expected to start at right back. “We
shall win by a big margin. We are very focused
and determined because this game is vital as far
as Uganda's football glory is to return,”
Masaba said.
Dan Wagaluka
Burst into fame with his awe-inspiring display
against Nigeria's Super Eagles. Size is nothing
of worry about to the diminutive midfielder. Wagaluka,
who stunned pundits by rejecting a move to South
Africa's Vasco da Gama predicts the Cranes will
win 4-0.
Hamis Kitagenda
The top scorer of the recently concluded National
Super League (21 goals) and Kakungulu Cup (11
goals) is ready to end the Cranes' goal scoring
drought. He predicts Cranes will win 3-0. “We
only need concentration and team work. We can
score as many goals as we can when we get proper
supply of balls from the midfield,” Kitagenda
said.
